Born on March 5, 1998, in Damascus, Syria, she fled her war-torn homeland as a teenager. During her harrowing journey to safety, Yusra heroically helped save fellow refugees by swimming their sinking boat to shore. Settling in Germany, she turned the tides of her life through sheer determination and talent. Her story is not just one of athletic prowess but also of unwavering courage in the face of overwhelming odds. A competitive swimmer since childhood, Yusra didn't let adversity dampen her spirit. She continued to train and made waves on the global stage at the Rio 2016 Olympics as a member of the Refugee Olympic Team.
